Monday took place a series of conferences at the U.S. Center in Cancun. The first conference belonged to Dr. Russ Schnell (NOAA), which had a highly interactive and innovative presentation. He said a liter of gas that burned removed three pounds of carbon dioxide. He also said that half of the carbon dioxide in the air will remain there for 1,000 years. Asked by APMR if he sent his analysis to the U.S. government ant to the UNFCCC, he answered affirmatively.
The second conference was attended by Reta Jo Lewis (U.S. Department of State) as Special Representative of the U.S. Department of State for Global Intergovernmental Affairs.
APMR asked if there is a national partnership between the Federal Government, state governments, universities and NGOs to engage citizens in the process, J. Jared Snyder and the representative of the U.S. State Department acknowledged that everyone must be involved in the process of protecting our environment, everyone must get together and discuss.
Steven Chu (Secretary of State for Energy and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN) - Nobel laureate for chemistry, spoke about "Building a Sustainable Energy Future." It was presented to the audience by the U.S. ambassador to Mexico. The event was attended by former President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Jose Maria Figueres Olsen (father of the Executive Secretary of UNFCCC). Steven Chu has said very clearly that in the following decades the oil price will increase and we should not depend so much on oil and gas. The last conference was presented by New Mexico Governor, Hon. Bill Richardson.
