Conference 1: William Hohenstein (USDA) made a presentation and talked about the Borlaug Fellowship and Global Research Alliance projects. Immediately after him followed Dr. Adlul Islam (ICAR, India), Dr. Rodrigo Arias (Catholic University of Temuco, Chile) which has made some clarifications on aspects of Chile. The last who spoke was Dr. Keith Paustian (Colorado State University).
Conference 2 (Launch of U.S. Strategy for REDD +): The conference was attended by four speakers. Joe Aldy (Special Assistant to the President of the United States), Maura O'Neill (USAID) who has presented the three objectives of the program REDD+, Billy Pizer (U.S. Treasury Department) and Patrick Smith (USAID) who talked about the architecture and projects of REDD+, noting that the United States cooperates with many countries in this respect (Mexico, Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Gabon etc.).
There was a concern of those present at this conference that the implementation of this project leads to the violation of indigenous peoples. Patrick Smith said that negotiations were focused on the rights of indigenous peoples.
Conference 3: This conference was attended by Michael Gibb (California EPA), Martin Chavez (ICLEI USA) and Nancy Sutley (CEQ). APMR asked if the CEQ and ICLEI have an international cooperation and what projects are implemented. Nancy Sutley said that they do exist, citing the bilateral and multilateral relations and the fact that a large number of agencies are involved. She said the fact that we must continue to find opportunities to work with other countries.
Conference 4: The conference was chaired by the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico (Carlos Pascual). Julia Carabias Lillo (CEIBA) spoked about the Lacandona rain forest, which is a critical area for water generation. Celia Pigueren (SEMARNAT) has focused on PECC (Statal Program on Climate Change). Fernando J. Gama (Evensen Dodge International) said that the collaboration with Michoacan is an example in Mexico. Manuel Pena Gomez (Wallmart Mexico & Central America) was the last to speak.
As a general conclusion of the fourth conference, we can say that the partnership between Mexico and the United States is an example of collaboration. The media have to make a greater contribution by disseminating information in social space.
